Sharing is and always will be tough!

Sharing is tough and always has been. Who really wanted to split the last piece of chocolate birthday cake? Or give up the toy after our turn? It's one of the first lessons you learned at pre-school or worse, when your younger sibling came along. Some of us still have a hard time with it. Those co-workers who take all of the credit for the new campaign? They are not sharers.

To succeed in business you have to walk the line between taking credit for the work that you do, while not taking ALL of the credit. For those that work on teams this is especially difficult because you need to stand out to management while keeping the "I" out of it.

For managers to maintain loyalty from the troops you absolutely must share credit for successes both large and small. For co-workers a nod to the group effort will keep you in everyone's good graces. But sharing credit does not mean undervaluing or underselling your contribution. This is especially crucial as you are heading into a review.

So if someone else comes up with the BIG idea then give them props. If that person is you, then take ownership of it because if you don't then the anti-sharer will!
